square Tips for Staff Advisors

  • Bring a bag or box with you to registration on April 28th, as the delegates' materials are quite bulky (each delegate receives a folder and handbook, among other materials)
  • Delegates need not be present in order to register your school on the 28th
  • We will ask for a cell phone number at which to contact you when you register; this is strictly for emergencies
  • Remind your delegates to attend opening ceremonies, and note that they must be dressed in Western business attire at all SOMA events
  • You may request attendance records from any committee at the conclusion of the conference, if you wish
  • In the unlikely event of behavioural issues with any delegates, SOMA's standard procedure for handling the problem is as follows:
    1. Verbal warning from Staff
    2. Verbal warning from Chair
    3. Temporary suspension from debate (censure)
    4. Removal from committee and referral to Staff Advisor
  • We will have space set aside for Staff Advisors both at University College during committee and at the Hilton during the banquet; these rooms will also have some refreshments
  • We will have cheques on hand during registration, so feel free to remind us of any outstanding financial concerns and they will be dealtwith promptly
  • SOMA sets aside one space per delegation in all regular committees and roughly two spaces per delegation in General Assemblies. To facilitate room preparation, we would very much appreciate it if you could warn us in advance if your delegates plan on exceeding these guidelines
